2011 Comedy Festival Highlights
Rib tickling jokes and big belly laughs, comedy is the perfect way to forget about any worries you may have and enjoy a vibrant element of the thriving entertainment scene that Glasgow offers. The 2011 Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival returns once again to bring some of the finest Scottish comedians including Daniel Sloss and Phil Differs. There’ll also be a showcase of comedians hailing from New York but whilst they may all reside in the Big Apple they all have Scottish family ties.
51 Venues, 25 Days
For 2011, the Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival has a lined up a whopping 400 shows. The events will be staged over the course of 25 days at 51 venues across the city. That’s over a fortnight of full-on comedy festival fun. The venues hosting comedy events stretch from The Griffin to Tiger Tiger, the Trongate to The Shed. After the shows, expect to find even the biggest names rubbing shoulders with you at late night festival clubs in the Merchant City or West End. They may be on the look-out for new material for next year’s shows though so keep your eyes peeled if you want to make sure that you’re not the butt of the jokes at next year’s comedy festival.
From Theatres to Community Centres
Community centres across Glasgow are going to be transformed into quality stand up comedy clubs. Netherton and Knightswood are new areas to add their community centres to the list this year and they’ll be in good company as Drumchapel, Langside, Easterhouse and Castlemilk community centres follow last year’s success. If you prefer your entertainment in more formal surroundings then head to Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Clyde Auditorium, the Theatre Royal and The Tron.
Biggest Comedy Festival in Europe
The Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival is the biggest in Europe and as such it easily attracts all the biggest and best names in comedy. Highlight acts include Russell Kane, Frank Carson, Pam Ann, John Bishop, Frankie Boyle, Andy Parsons, and Jerry Sadowtiz, so expect this year's festival to be every bit as impressive as previous years.
